Winter causes faucets and pipes to crack and leak. Prevent this by simply installing hose bib covers over your exterior water spigots.
They shield the spigot from wind and hold some heat from the house along the pipe.
Full disclosure, our outdoor spigot pipe burst last year. I want to save you from that fate.
Buy a Hose Bib Cover for less than $5.
Disconnect any hoses from the hose bibs.
Loop the inner drawstring loop onto the spigot.
Cinch the zip lock to hold the cover against the wall securely with no air gaps.
Last year we had a hard freeze and one of the pipes connected to our hose bib burst inside the wall. I walked into our bathroom and water was EVERYWHERE. This year we are taking 5 minutes to install our hose bib covers.
